Amaro Camatti was born in 1924 in the Ligurian town of Recco, thanks to the foresight of the Livornese chemist Umberto Briganti. Along with his brother Cesare, he initiated the first production of the liqueur destined to become a symbol of Genoa. The name – Camatti – is a tribute to Briganti’s wife’s surname (Camatti). Its recipe, still partly a secret, is preserved and perpetuated by Stefano Bergamino. Together with his partner, Marco, they continue to produce liqueurs and distillates beneath the banner of Distilleria Cinque Terre. The meticulous selection of ingredients, herbs, and vegetables ensures a product with high-quality standards, with the production process being as artisan as possible. Thus, a special liqueur was born, still enjoying great success due to its reduced alcohol content, very pleasant taste, and great tasting versatility. A product with a century-old history, in 2023, it was awarded the prestigious title of Worlds Best Bitter by the jury of the World Liqueur Awards.
